Science fiction (or 'speculative fabulation' as Donna Haraway calls it, echoing another 'SF' acronym), offers us a powerful way to envision other worlds, where societies and nature, or what Haraway calls 'naturecultures' are configured in new, intriguing ways, enabling us to we imagine possible futures for the worlds we live in here on 21st-century earth.
A prerequisite to doing this assignment well is reading your whole book. Please be finished with it by the week of April 15th so that you have enough time to conceptualize and then realize a successful project.
For this assignment, you will be making objects tied to the science fiction novel you are reading, by Butler, LeGuin, Okorafor, Chiang or others. What objects -- technical, magickal, ecological or otherwise -- are especially significant in the SF you are reading? Or, is there an object or objects that would be especially helpful? We will use fabrication technologies -- laser cutting and etching, and 3D printing -- to bring your chosen object or objects into form.

1) conceptual: unique, artistic approach to a problem
2) perceptual: ability of have your aesthetic/ creative process reflect your concepts (form reflects content)
3) technical: your ability to implement technical lessons into project
